The Royal house of Bourbon

Posted by Lisa Harp on

Guess What? Bourbon street in New Orleans was named after The Royal Bourbon House of France.....not for whiskey as most everyone assumes. The fleur de lis is actually the bloom of an ancient water lily and was the chosen crest symbol for the Bourbon royal family. This symbol can be seen throughout the city, from lamp posts to antique iron cemetery fences to street sighs right up to the Superdome.  This iconic French symbol can be found on many buttons from the Victorian era representing unity, light and perfection.
