Lucky Horseshoes

Posted by Lisa Harp on

Horseshoes have long been considered a symbol of good luck.

And just as old is the argument "should the shoe be pointing up or down"?

A horseshoe with the two ends pointing up collects good luck, while the two ends pointing downward pours luck on others.

So why a horseshoe?! Blacksmiths were thought to have special powers. They worked with the element of fire and because iron could withstand fire it was considered magical.  A blacksmith performing your marriage was a sure bet it would be blessed with happiness. Someone sick? Call the blacksmith for healing!

A farrier is a blacksmith who specializes in shoeing horses. But why does a horse need shoes anyway? #whydohorseswearshoes
